Michael Rosen - Ve De Di Founder

Michael Rosen

FOUNDER

My great grandfathers on both sides ran bars, at least one a Prohibition speakeasy in a town of ill repute. My working life began in a bar. I discovered whisky as a young academic in England. Realizing that Hà Nội’s brutally hot to dismally cold weather is perfect for aging whisky, I started Về Để Đi with the intent anyone does when starting a long journey - for meaning, adventure and sublime spirits.

I co-founded Về Để Đi to pursue my lifelong dream of creating a national spirit for Việt Nam, and to bring the flavors, characteristics, terroirs, and craftmanship in the making of Vietnamese most outstanding whiskies, gin and rum to the world. Having grown up in Hà Nội, I also wanted to tell my story of this bold and daring city through each and every note of our spirit.

From my days as a university student in Scotland away from my Swiss home, I hoped to create a fine whisky setting the mark, embodying the story of its environment. While a career in management consulting has led me to many industries with opportunities to improve and transform, I finally found a place to give birth to something new and special. I hope that one day Về Để Đi will be savored both by the Vietnamese connoisseur, the intrepid traveler and people open to adventure across the globe.

During a career in engineering and operations across the United States and Việt Nam, I’ve understood three key things: First, my greatest passions are building things and connecting people. Second, nothing brings people together quite like spirits. Third, whisky stands out as the ultimate spirit to be savored - around the world. Về Để Đi allows me to bring these passions to life. Crafting something extraordinary from Việt Nam for the world, while fostering meaningful connections over exceptional drinks.
